Burberry Aftershave & Men's Fragrance

Thomas Burberry, a former draper's apprentice, made the brave decision to open the first Burberry store in Basingstoke, Hampshire in 1856 and since then it has gone from strength to strength and beyond. In 1880 Burberry made a name for itself by introducing Gabardine, which is a hard wearing and water resistant material that was to be used in the creation of many of the Burberry pieces to come.

The trench coat became the symbol of Burberry and probably their most iconic piece because Burberry were originally commissioned by the war office to adapt its officer's coat to suit the conditions of contemporary warfare, resulting in the birth of the 'trench coat'. After the war, the look remained fashionable and popular with civilians and the iconic Burberry check was created in 1920 to be used as a lining in the coat and remains one of the most popular items of the Burberry brand today.

Other poignant events in the rise to success for Burberry were iconic figures in History sporting their creations – creating a 'if it's good enough for them then it's good enough for me' sort of attitude and boosting their sales and success enormously. In 1911 when Roald Amundsen was the first person to reach the South Pole, it was Burberry who supplied their clothes and tents. A few years later in 1914, when Ernest Shackleton has his photo taken in Argentina as he prepared his team for the Imperial Trans-Atlantic Expidition, he was seen to be wearing Burberry. These examples, along with the many other iconic patrons of this brand has build a huge confidence amongst the consumer, which still remains today.

One of the most popular selling items from this leading design house is perhaps the aftershave and fragrance collection, especially for men. Not only is the menswear from Burberry amongst some of the bestsellers in many department stores, Burberry has a had a long career in the fragrance market too, launching the first aftershave for men under the simple title 'Burberrys for Men'. The next scent to follow after the debut success was called 'Society' (1991) and was produced for both men and women and since then Burberry have experienced one of the biggest successes for a fashion label in the fragrance world with over 50 scents having been produced to date and their cosmetic line 'Burberry Beauty' being launched in June 2010.
