Estée Lauder Aftershave & Men's Fragrance
Established much earlier than many aftershave and fragrance companies, the house of Estee Lauder was one of the founding cosmetic, beauty and perfume giants for both men and women to establish themselves in what was set to be one of the most lucrative and sought after markets in the world. Originally founded by Joseph Lauder and his wife Estee Lauder back in 1946, the company today is now one of the leading manufacturers and marketers of prestige skincare, makeup, fragrance and also haircare products.
The headquarters are currently based in Manhattan, New York City and by the time the 1960s had arrived there were offices based around the world, initially in London and Hong Kong. It now boasts itself to be a truly global organization with wholly owned or majority owned and operated offices in over 40 countries and territories and 27 well known brands now under its umbrella.
In 1964, much earlier than most other fragrance companies had even been established or thought of, the Estee Lauder brand started their second brand known as Aramis and this company produced fragrances and grooming products for men. The welfare of men was further supported when in 1976 the clinique brand became the first women's cosmetic company to introduce a second line for the male population and this still remains one of the most popular skincare brands for men today.
As the years went on the popularity of this giant grew and the list of names on their books became more and more extensive, with Lauder acquiring companies such as Michael Kors, Tom Ford, Tommy Hilfiger, Sean John Fragrances and more recently Smashbox Cosmetics, which they purchased in 2010. Although Estee Lauder sadly passed away in 2004, the management of this fragrance giant is still controlled by the Lauder family with her son and grandson heavily involved. The balance of it being a family run business but also with members of both the male and female generation being involved means that both the needs of men and women are constantly monitored and considered through all avenues that the company embarks upon.
Unlike many fragrance, aftershave and corporate giants, Estee Lauder is known for using their fame, fortune and success in an attempt to aid others who aren't perhaps as fortunate as they are. They are heavily involved in the Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign, something which was in fact launched by Evely H.Lauder, daughter of Estee. This campaign alone has raised over $10 million and continues to spread worldwide awareness about this life changing issue.
Since the start of the naughties, the Estee Lauder brand has been subjected to criticism as well praise, including being the target of a boycott campaign, reaching the headlines for animal testing and once appearing on the list of supporting controversial campaigns. This has not, however, dampened their huge success and this giant is definitely one of those that will be around for a very long time to come.
