Givenchy Aftershave & Men's Fragrance
Givenchy, a name synonymous with Parisian chic, was founded in 1952 by Count Hubert de Givenchy. Due to his aristocratic upbringing, he was initially on course towards a career in law, but his heart soon overcame the desires of his parents and at the tender age of 17 he got the opportunity to enjoy some work experience with designer Jacques Fath. Having truly enjoyed the experience, he soon progressed and gained some further experience among designers like Lucien Lelong, Robert Piquet and Elsa Schiaparelli. Unsurprisingly after having gained such great insight and experience in the fashion industry, Givenchy's debut collection became an instant hit, having received much praise for the unique blend of French elegance and American glamour in his chic and feminine designs.
In 1952 Givenchy decided to establish his own brand and so founded his own luxury fashion house along with the launch of a new collection, Les Séparables, which consisted of floaty skirts and puffy blouses made from raw cotton. In his following collections, Givenchy also designed elegant evening gowns, feminine hats and tailored suits, and so the Givenchy name became synonymous with Parisian chic. It wasn't until 1957 that he decided to also expand to fragrances, which is when he launched the Audrey Hepburn inspired “L'Interdit”, a delicate and powdery floral perfume with sumptuously deep woody notes derived from sandalwood and vetiver.
The first male fragrances from Givenchy were launched in 1959, called “Eau de Vetiver” and “Monsieur de Givenchy”. These fragrances weren't just very popular among the more fashionable men of the time, but even more so among the general public, which of course cemented Givenchy's reputation for decades to come. Other popular scents among the Givenchy collection of fragrances and aftershaves for men are the aromatic fougere notes of Xeryus (1989), the warm and spicy Oriental notes of Xeryus Rouge (1995), the sumptuously sweet and woody Pi (1998), the aromatically woody citrus notes of Givenchy pour Homme (2002), the fresh and spicy accords of Play for Him (2008) and the balsamic woody and smoky notes of Gentlemen Only (2013) to name but a few.
